When I first thought about wanting to do a balcony garden, I knew I wanted it to be different, and something that brought me a lot of joy, and something still super nerdy and true to myself. Since I couldn’t really have repurposed robots with plants growing out of them (HA, COULD YOU IMAGINE) I thought of neon and something that would make the balcony lively at night.
It took about a month or two of planning but it finally came together for me. The only thing missing is a way to have the sign light up on it’s own via solar powered pack, but they’re far too expensive in Canada so I’ll have to wait until the next time I’m stateside and I’ll grab one then. In the meantime, I think it’s safe to say I’m in love with this space.
I’m still not sure what I’m going to do with the left side of the balcony (the side with the palm & blank wall)- I’d probably like to add some hanging plants, or maybe more purple lights, I’m not sure. But for now it’s pretty cool!
Also, it was pretty hot today when taking these pictures, so that hibiscus is looking a little worn, but I swear she’s doing great. (Her name is Lina.) She’s the first plant I’ve kept alive (other than Bob). Really, she’s the one that kept me going through all this, if she had died I probably would have given up on the idea of real plants and a balcony garden.
Fun fact- that blue and white lantern is one of the only things I have from growing up in Okinawa.
The love is real,
